Title: The KAABA

*| Assalamualaikum and very good evening to Mr**** and fellow friends. First of all, I want to ask a question. Who intend to perform Um-rah/Hajj in the future? Actually Um-rah and Hajj is a 4th pillars of Islam. So it is a must for us, Islam. who are capable to do so. I personally intend to perform Um-rah during Ramadan this year. There is one of Um-rah and Hajj pillars which is "Tawaf" around the Kaaba. So the question is, What is Kaaba?  According to Ministry of Hajj, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kaaba is a cubical building located in Grand Mosque, also known as Al- Masjid Al-Haram, Mecca, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is a sacred place in Islam.
In researching this speech, I learned and realize the important to us, Muslim, to know more about Kaaba. The history and the great architecture about it. I love to share it with u guys what I've got from my research.
Today, I would like to inform to you about Kaaba as a Qibla, the architecture and the history of Kaaba construction.

First, Kaaba as a Qibla. What is Qibla? It is actually a direction faced during praying. It is a focal point for prayer. This direction is actually the direction where the Kaaba is.
I'll read the meaning of a Quran verse that say:
" And from wherever you go out for prayer, turn your face toward Al-Masjid Al-Haram. And wherever you believe may be, turn your faces toward it in order that people will not have any argument against you, except for those who commit wrong; so fear them not but fear Me(God). And it is so I(God) may complete My favor upon you and that you will be guided." Al-Quran, Chapter 2 (Al-Baqarah), verse 150.
This is the proof that Kaaba is the qibla for us.

From my research also I have discovered that qibla is the second qibla after Mosque Al-Aqsa also known as Bait Al- Maqdis. Mosque Al-Aqsa is the first qibla. It is then change to Kaaba by the command from Almighty God, ALLAH S.W.T, to Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.
As cited in everymuslim.net,2012, The Muslim change their direction promptly in prayer, i compliance with the divine command, toward the Kaaba which was henceforth selected as the qibla for all belivers, living in any part of the world, for all times to come.
Until now Kaaba is the qibla for us.

Second, the architecture of Kaaba. The name of Kaaba means "cube" but the structure of the Kaaba is not actually cube. It is measured to be 12m long, 10m wide, and 15m high. So it is not the measurement of a cube. The exterior architecture of Kaaba, Kaaba was built from grey granite. The single entrance is on northeast side, 2.3m above the ground. Kaaba is usually covered by the large black cloth. known as "Kiswah" that has Quranic verses embroidered with gold thread on it. Each year the new Kiswah is created and befor 1927, it was provided by Egyptian Artisan who brought with them in a way to perform Hajj that traveled from Cairo.
About the interior architecture, the interior walls was clad with marble halfway to the roof. The marble is insert with Quranic inscription. The wall directly adjacent to the entrance of Kaaba has six tablets in laid with inscription. The top parts of the walls are covered with green cloth embroidered with gold Quranic verses. The caretaker will anoint the marble cladding with scented oil that also used to the Blackstone.
There have three pillars stand inside the Kaaba, with a small altar set between one and the other two. Also have lamp-like object hang by a rope above the platform and there are an enclosed staircase leads to the roof.
Features around the Kaaba - Al-Hajaru Al- Aswad "The Blackstone". located in the Kaaba eastern corner.
                                          - The station of Abraham. Where a glass and metal enclosure with what is said
to be an imprint of Prophet Abraham's foot.
                                          - Hatim, a long wall originally part of the Kaaba. It is a semi- circular wall
opposite but not connected to the northwest wall of the Kaaba.

Last but not least is the history of Kaaba constructions. According to Muslim tradition, Prophet Adam A.S built the original Kaaba as the copy of and directly below God's throne in heaven. this structure then destroyed in the great flood, leaving nothing but the foundation of the building. The current structure of Kaaba was rebuilt by Prophet Abraham A.S together with his son Prophet Ismail A.S. The Quran states that  Abraham with his son Ismail , raised the foundation of Kaaba. [Quran, 2:127]. God has shown the exact site, very near to the well of ZamZam, where Prophet Abraham and Prophet Ismail began work on Kaaba's construction in circa 2130 B.C. For your info, Kaaba has been reconstructed between 5-12 times according to scholar and historians. Prophet Muhammad S.A.W also participated in one of the reconstruction before he became a prophet. After flash flood, the Kaaba was damaged and its wall cracked. Prophet Muhammad S.A.W helped with this reconstruction and involved in the incident of placing back the black stone to the corner of Kaaba.

There a little bit about Kaaba that I can share. For the conclusion, Kaaba is a great and sacred structure. It is the qibla for all Muslim in the world wherever they go. The construction is simple but unique and surround by great feature and historic value.

Thank You.
